This documentary investigates the origins and historical whereabouts of the relics of Jesus and his disciples in the Eternal City: pieces of the cross on which Jesus was crucified, the spear that pierced his side, the Holy Stairs, the pillar from the scourging, the crown of thorns, the tombs of apostles Peter and Paul, and more.
It presents the findings from the latest excavations in St. Paul Outside-the-Walls, as well as St. Peter's tomb in the Vatican. Various experts analyze the journey of the relics from the Passion of Jesus, until they arrived to Rome.
"The Footprints of Jesus in Rome" explains the influence these elements have had throughout history, both in coming to Rome, and strengthening the power of popes in medieval Europe.
